Automated and Real-time Wayside Pantograph MonitoringPantoInspect is a danish company that has developed an unique Pantograph Condition Monitoring System (PCMS) called the PantoSystem, which is currently installed in four countries.

The PantoSystem is an automated and real-time wayside pantograph monitoring system that inspects and measures the train pantographs for possible damages and wear during everyday operations without any interruptions to passenger or freight train services.
When a defect is detected on a pantograph, it is automatically reported to the train company via the scanner system's data processing system. This will allow the train operator to take immediate action and eliminate the problem before any accidental tear-downs of electrical wiring.
PantoSystem measures a rich set of features
The PantoSystem detects for wear and defects on the pantograph carbon strips. The system also measures the state of the pantograph horns which are often very critical for safe traversal of switches etc. Finally, the system also provides measurements for detecting badly adjusted uplift pressure.
The measurements are available for planning and predicting service needs for each individual pantograph, and measurements may also be used to analyze changes to normal wear patterns indicating problems in the catenary wiring.
