CEIT-IK4 provides engineering services in the characterization of mechanical properties of materials and their fabrication processes, at the macroscopic and meso/micro/nanoscopic levels, and works on three application fields:
  •  Forming processes,
  •  Mechanical properties and structural integrity,
  •  Phenomena associated with plastic deformation, fracture and life prediction under creep-fatigue conditions.

CEIT-IK4 deals mainly with materials for applications in extreme conditions of pressure, temperature or environment; the main activities are in the design and development of graphitic materials and in the characterization and modeling of ceramic and metal matrix composites.
Moreover, CEIT-IK4 combines standard simulation tools with in-house modeling techniques to describe the microstructures evolution and the plasticity and fracture properties of the materials and their interfaces at different scales. CEIT-IK4 has a well rounded expertise that encompasses experimental, theoretical and numerical aspects of the material´s behavior
