Challenges in focus: Fire Protection Cable Glands for the Railway Industry
The highest premise in the railway industry is that in the event of a fire in the railway vehicle, fires won´t continue to spread further. Decisively, the train can be safely driven for a certain time following the outbreak of fire, for example, in order to exit from a tunnel and thus ensure the safe evacuation of passengers and staff, before the firefighting begins. Against this background, a decisive criterion is that components do not additionally foster the expansion of the fire. Such a component property is tested in the context of extensive tests and confirmed internationally by certificates of VDE, CSA and UL. For years, the cable glands from PFLITSCH have fulfilled the requirements of these tests with regard to fire behavior.

Another special feature within the railway industry is the prolonged mechanical stress, extreme climatic influences and temperature changes. All these aspects stress the cable gland bodies and sealing inserts of the cable glands. Therefore, PFLITSCH offers cable glands and corresponding sealing inserts made of different materials. Our sealing inserts are made of high quality T80s and silicone S55. This guarantees high vibration resistance and optimum strain relief values.

What product solutions has PFLITSCH developed for the rail industry?
PFLITSCH offers a wide product range: the fire protection cable glands of the product series UNI Dicht and blueglobe as well as the splittable fire protection cable glands UNI Flange and UNI Split Gland. These products have been designed in compliance with the applicable fire safety standard EN 45545 and are fully suitable for use in rail vehicles.

PFLITSCH offers a wide range of products for the railway industry: One of the highlights is the blueglobe TRI fire protection cable gland. It sets new standards in screening attenuation and its triangular spring secures 360° contact with the braiding shield. The cable gland blueglobe TRI with sealing insert T80s is available in sizes M12 to M63 in brass and stainless steel. Standard metric threads and 15 mm long special threads are an option. The cable gland combines excellent HF-damping performance and is tested according to the latest fire protection standard EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-3. The sealing material T80s fulfils the highest requirements under HL3 which is the new EU norm for unrestricted use in trains.
