CEIT-IK4 has more than twenty year of experience giving Research Service in Railways Dynamics to several companies, from railways administrators and rolling stock manufacturer to specific components providers.
Subsequently, as a result of the knowledge acquired along all the R&D projects carried out, CEIT-IK4 Railways Dynamics Team is focused nowadays on giving to its clients support in the following main areas:
TestBench design and development
CEIT-IK4 has developed different types of solutions in order to analyze, measure and verify vehicle and infrastructure components, such as, air springs suspensions, rubber pads, helicoidal primary suspensions, railway dampers. As a current example of the capabilities in this area the wheel rail contact testbench can be underlined (see picture).
The test bench allows to reproduce the wheel rail contact conditions that take place during real operation, with a precise control and monitoring of the relative speed and forces involved in the rail-wheel contact. The results obtained with the test bench can be applied in several problems of great interest: estimation of the contact forces vs creepages relationships, wear material analysis, development of traction control strategies, influence of lubricants/sand in the wheel rail contact forces, noise studies and strategies to minimize noise emissions, Rolling Contact Fatigue…
Wheel/Rail contact related problem on infrastructure
CEIT-IK4 has an extensive experience in wheel rail contact infrastructure related problems such as corrugation, flats detection, rolling contact fatigue, etc. The works carried out by CEIT-IK4 include the mathematical modelling of the phenomena, measurements on field, solution proposal and implementation.
As an example of the developed work in this field the Flat Detections System developed for MetroBilbao can be mentioned.
Vehicle Dynamics Modelling and Simulation
One of the main research fields of CEIT-IK4 is the Modelling and Simulation of Railway Vehicle taking into account accurately critical components such as yaw dampers, air springs, traction chain, etc.
The precision of the model has been tested by means of experimental results obtained via self developed dynamometric wheelset.
The simulation of behaviour of vehicle when passing through switches, crossing or even flexible structures has been also addressed.
