Product description

Loosening of the coupling and the uncoupling process are tough and dangerous tasks executed by workers called shunters. The new built uncoupling robot makes the first step to automatize these processes and was successfully tested in labor- and field trials at the marshalling yard in Linz.

The uncoupling process with this robot is executed on moving trains. Based on the toggle lever principle it is possible, with two cable drives, to accelerate the mechanism to train speed. Once the top edge of the rail is in position, the coupling can be released from the hook.

An intelligent sensor combination of wheel sensor, ToF-camera and laser scanner enables a precise triggering of the loosened screw coupling. In addition, during the development phase of this project, special attention was paid to increasing work safety and implementing a successful life cycle management concept.
